Treatment

Treatment for C’est Mon Block
DeMarcus is on location in a council estate, DeMarcus is normally dressed in his suit or other formal attire. However he feels the need to blend in to avoid being detected by the locals. DeMarcus starts talks about where he is and what he plans to while he is on the estate. He walks to his guest and inside man ‘Z’ who has lived on the estate all his life. It is heavily implied that he is part of and a gang however he neither denies nor confirms this. As the interview progresses DeMarcus tries to gain a broader insight into what type of person ‘Z’, DeMarcus asks how much ‘Z’ makes each week. Z claims he makes around ’10 bags’ a week, a claim no one can substantiate. As they go around the area they discuss the positives of the area, such as the community spirit as well as the community centre where it allows children to escape the hostile environment they live in.

DeMarcus also discusses with ‘Z’ the type of problems his area faces, such as the drug dealing, gangs, robbery and other anti-social behaviour. The documentary concludes with DeMarcus offering his own thoughts on what he has experienced on his visit to the estate. DeMarcus talks about his negative conceptions about estates however he understands how despite the many problems that the people who live there face there are support mechanisms in place to prevent anyone life from taking the wrong direction.
